Meet our host…Michel

Michel: Hi, my name is Michel I'm twenty two years old. I was born in Hornepayne, Ontario up in the great white north and I grew up in Sudbury, Ontario actually in a small town just north of Sudbury called Hanmer not "hammer". It's with an "n" not an "m" and um, I moved to Toronto about four years ago to work in tech support with RBC Royal Bank and um, I just recently left my most recent job as a manager of the second level tech support team to start this job. And I applied for this job because it is one of the coolest jobs ever and it involved a lot of technology but a lot of working with people as well which is really important to me. So I get to work with media and public relations as well as bloggers who get to post their stuff on the internet.

Michel's money stories

Interviewer: So what is the most stressful or the biggest purchase you've made to date and why?

Michel: The biggest and most stressful purchase that I've made to date would have to be my jeep. I, you know, was looking for a vehicle that had four wheel drive so that I could make it up north in the winter and out to the cottage. Um, but I was looking for more of a car and not really an SUV. I ended up stumbling on upon this great deal that was my jeep and I just fell in love with it and I've been driving around in it ever since.

Interviewer: Have you had any weird things happen or challenges happen while attempting to get funding for school?

Michel: When I was trying to get funding for school um, my parents, you know, thought that it would be a great idea to let me fend for myself and pay for my own schooling. And it turned out to be a really good in the end, however, when I was looking to get funding I couldn't get funding from OSAP because there was too much family income. And I didn't have enough credit to really get a line of credit on my own but I ended up getting a line of credit and it ended up working out for the best.

Interviewer: What would you say is the most fun thing you've ever mis-spent money on?

Michel: The funnest thing I've ever mis-spent money on would have to be my turn tables. Um, about, oh, two years ago I bought a set of turn tables, a mixer, all of the vinyl to go with it. And I had a lot of fun with it, but it was pretty useless and because I actually didn't get out and become a DJ, I ended up selling them and it was money mis-spent but I had a lot of fun with it.

Likes and Dislikes

Interviewer: What would you say is the worst job you've ever held?

Michel: Worst job I've ever had would have to be Market Research. Doing surveys at five o'clock with people who are sitting down for dinner for an hour is not terribly respected nor wanted.

Interviewer: So Michel, what do you like to do when you're not working?

Michel: Well, when I'm not working I really enjoy off-roading in my Jeep. It's probably one of the top things that I like to do. Um, I also like to keep up-to-date on what's going on in the world. I also really enjoy traveling. Um, it's not unheard of for me to drive two- to three-thousand kilometers in a weekend. I also really enjoy getting together with friends.

Interviewer: What do you enjoy most or least about the internet today?

Michel: The internet today is a really great way to communicate with people. Um, it really gives people an opportunity to stay connected. People's social networks have gotten much longer, and they're able to keep in touch with a lot more people. Something that I don't like about the internet is that there's a lot of useless garbage.

There's more to Michel…

Interviewer: What do you want to be when you grow up?

Michel: When I grow up, I'm wanna be an astronaut! Actually, no, when I grow up, I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I'm still really discovering what I want to do with my life, and my interests are so varied and so wide that I could do just about anything!

Interviewer: What would you say is your secret super power?

Michel: My secret super power is my ability to fly, but don't tell anybody that I told you that! That's how I get places really quickly.
